in the meantime & in between time...
After watching a documentary on Bret "The Hitman" Hart last night. I started feeling nostalgic and missing the old matches of Stampede Wrestling. Every Saturday afternoon, sitting around the TV to catch excitement of wrestling in its better days. I can't say that I follow the wrestling shows much at all lately, but still remember the good old days, and my hat goes off to the fellas that provided such great entertainment on a nightly, weekly basis.
The best part of them older days was getting ready for the weekly trip to the old Saskatoon arena to watch Stampede Wrestling LIVE. Getting to watch and meet some of the stars was a weekly tradition. We would walk through the front door, pay our $3 or whatever the price was, $1 for a copy of Body Press (the wrestling program), $1 for a box of popcorn which was for throwing purposes:) Next we'd grab a seat and watch all our old favorites and some of our not-so favorites...
I would say that I was 4, maybe 5 years old, when one huge behemoth of man made his way into the Saskatoon arena that night. My pa took me to meet the huge fella. Being so young, all I remember was being frightened by the large fella. Honestly, who wouldn't be frightened by a dude called Andre The Giant? I vaguely remember seeing a man larger than life, with dark bushy hair and dark eyes to match. Little did I know at the time, that this large man would make such an impact on wrestling for years to come up until his death in 1993.
So just a little trip down memory lane for all you wrestling fans. I can't say that I'm a fan of it much today, but take me back to the good old days, I'm the biggest fan. So in the meantime, and in between time, this has been another edition of Stampede Wrestling, and my thoughts:)

for sale: slightly used guitar...

At the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a young guitar slinger named Jimi Hendrix was lighting his stratocaster on fire. Sure the pictures are famous, everybody has seen them. Has anybody seen the guitar? I mean afterwards? Well, on September 5, 2008, the old burnt guitar was dug up by the nephew of Hendrix's press officer and put up for auction. This old burnt up strat went for a whopping 280,000 pounds ($498,000). Now, that seems like a pretty good deal for a piece of rock and roll history, right? If I had the cash, I most likely would have snatched up this lil beauty. But the part of me that likes new shiny toys, probably would have pulled out some sandpaper and a couple cans of paint. And of course put on a new set of strings, my way. Y'all have a great day:)

the new phone of my dreams...

Been spending the last few weeks, looking at new phones. Yes I have a Blackberry, and although its a very nice phone, I constantly feel the need to upgrade. Its just my thing, its always been my thing. Sorry for being so tech savvy.
Then a few weeks ago while watching tv, I saw a cool commercial featuring Eric Clapton promoting the most coolest, the most awesome phone I ever saw. I just had to have it...Unfortunately, to my dismay, I found out that the phone was only available in the US through a US service provider. Very sad news. So my search goes on, as I am obviously limited to Blackberrys and other cute girly phones. I will stick with the Blackberry, maybe a Storm 2 is in my future. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
But time for sleep as I'm sure I have gotten you all sleepy now. Tired, think I'll sleep now, good night, good morning:)
redbull, unreturned calls and matthew good
One thought, if you've ever read my blogs on myspace long ago, you'll see that I always posted the top 3 things that piss me off. Its funny that something such as bad weather, bills, politics, or just a song I heard will make the Top 3. I think its time to soon revive that top 3 list, and find a few things that can leave this dude feeling a bit perturbed...
Phones and the mail system have been around since way before I entered this world, and will probably be around long after I'm gone. Sure a few more conveniences have made their way to the top of the heap. Cellphones and computers, have seemed to take over the way we communicate these days. Social networking sites, SMS (Text) messaging, and the all-famous e-mail are all the top and only ways to communicate. The actual need to hear another persons voice, has been replaced by a few status updates, wall posts or a text message. I'm cool with all of that, I love my blackberry and the cool new technology that changes constantly.
One thing, that does bother me a bit, of course, is the occasional call that goes unreported, unnoticed, unreturned...In this day and age where a person will always have a cellphone attached to their ear or their thumbs, I'm sure a simple call or email reply can be easily accomplished. Just a little gripe I have with the world today, and I'm sure I will get over it by the next blog update:)
This can of energy is near empty and just started some more tunes by Matthew Good, one of my favourite Canadian Artists. Like honestly, who could write a song called "Apparitions" or "Volcanoes" and share such great words and emotions. Songwriters like this give me a bit of inspiration and the strength to carry on with this musical ride. If you get the chance, check out some of Matthew's songs you won't be disappointed you may even be mesmerized.
So...a blog update like I promised and now time for some fresh air. Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoyed the visit. Tomorrow is another day, maybe some calls will be returned and the snow will suddenly vanish from the front yard. Y'all take care and have a great night, day, week.....MD
march is here, spring soon to follow, i think...
Now it is time to get back work, and prepare for the days to come. A new CD from fellow artist Duncan Gardiner will be released this spring. A collection of great cover songs which have already hit the airwaves, will soon be hitting your cd collection, stay tuned.
I have had the fortune to work with some artists coming into their talent and trying to make a name for themselves. Some are the classiest people to work with. Patience and trust are qualities that most people in this business have to acquire over years and years of trying to "get their foot in the door" so to speak. And I am fortunate to have worked with a few artists that have these qualities along with a drive to survive and succeed.
There are always bumps in the road we travel that make this musical journey a rough ride, but with great friends, great artists and great musicians, it can be a smooth ride at times. Some of these bumps may include, cancelled gigs, lost inspiration, inflated egos, and just overall unprofessional people, but if you're lucky enough to work with some of the people I have the opportunity to work with on a weekly basis, you'll see that there are good people out there...People that you can turn your back on, that won't try to hurt you and won't air their dirty laundry on social networking sites.
Thanks for reading, the days to come are getting brighter. Thanks again to fellow artists & musicians, thanks to supporters, thanks to family & friends, and most of all...thanks to the fans...YOU ROCK!!!
